Quiksilver renewed its contract with the WSL until 2021

Despite financial turbulence, the first event of the season will continue to be from the mountain and wave brand

The first event of the World Surf League CT season, the Snapper Rocks Classic in Coolangatta, Queensland, will continue to be called the Quik Pro until at least 2021, the professional surfing authority announced in a press release published on its website on Saturday.

With this, in three years the brand will celebrate 20 consecutive years launching each season of the CT.

“We are delighted that the brand is extending its sponsorship of the Gold Coast event for the next three years,” said WSL CEO Sophie Goldschmidt. “Their continued commitment and support of the historic Snapper Rocks tournament allows us to get off to a fantastic start to each season. We look forward to the future of this event and to continuing to strengthen our relationship with the brand.”

Brand manager Garry Wall said: “As part of our 50-year celebration in 2019 and the continued resurgence of our brand, we are delighted to extend our long-term commitment to the Gold Coast event.

Quiksilver was founded to create boardshorts for surfing iconic waves like the one at the event, which fits perfectly with our brand. We are happy that six surfers from the brand will be representing us on the tour, with six different nationalities.

Quiksilver is committed to developing the culture of boardriding at all levels and being a partner of the WSL is key to achieving this,” concluded the brand executive.

The tournament will take place between April 3 and 13.
