Ramón Navarro was declared an illustrious son of Pichilemu

The bomb in Fiji was decisive for the Chilean to receive the historic distinction. He is the fourth Pichilemino in history to receive it.

In a solemn ceremony held in the main square of Pichilemu, Ramón Navarro was declared an illustrious son of his hometown by the municipality of his town.

After having surfed one of the most incredible waves in history three weeks ago in Fiji, having been one of the best in that historic Eddie in 2009 and surfing that tube in Fiji in 2012, among other historic moments of worldwide relevance that place him among one of the best big riders of recent years and one of the most influential surfers in Latin America, the authorities had no more excuses to give him the award.

“It is with great pride that we have gathered today to pay tribute to a great athlete and citizen of Pichilemino who has earned the respect and admiration of Chile and the world for his impeccable career,” said Mayor Ricardo Córdova.

Ramón, visibly moved, dedicated a message to the children and teachers who were present. He let them know that they must take care of the "problem children", as he said he was, because he dedicated all his spare energy to being at sea and in this way his time was well invested and the fruits were visible.

This is the first time in history that the town has honoured a surfer with this distinction, and the fourth time in history. The three previous awards were given to a doctor, a singer and a priest.
