Back to the Margaret River Pro, now Uluwatu Pro

The stage that sharks stopped in Australia begins again this Friday in Indonesia

On Friday (Thursday afternoon in the West), the historic third stage of the 2018 World Tour, the Margaret River Pro, will restart, concluding as the Uluwatu CT. It will be the first time in history that a stage that starts in one country ends in another.

According to the forecast, waves will be acceptable from the first day of the period but will pick up during the weekend, and next week it will get nice. Unfortunately, the tournament period will take three days and will go until the 10th to complete the seven women's heats and 23 men's heats needed to complete the event.

Some last-minute news is the absence of John John Florence, which will give a free pass to Mikey Wright, who with the third place in Keramas and now at least a ninth in Uluwatu, already has one foot in the CT 2019 through the repeated invitations he has had.

Mikey Wright will have a bye to round 4 due to the absence of John John due to a knee injury.

The money for this event has already been distributed in equal amounts to all participants, the competition is only for points.

The last time a WSL event was held at the iconic Bukit spot was in 2015, when the Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge took place, a QS 1000 won by Jarred Hickel.

To find a CT event held on the Bukit Peninsula, however, you have to go back to 2008, when the Rip Curl tournament took place, won by Bruce Irons in a 100% Hawaiian final against Fred Patacchia.

This tournament started with good waves at North Point in Western Australia, continued on to the main spot at Margaret River and was then cancelled because two shark attacks took place very close to where the championship was taking place.

A contingent of competitors, especially Brazilians, expressed their opposition on social media to competing there. In a historic decision, two days later, the WSL announced that it was stopping the championship.
