Slater has retired from Quik Pro
“I will return when I consider the time is right,” he wrote, explaining that competing would not be the most responsible decision.
Talk of Kelly competing in Round 2 of the Quik Pro was put to rest with an Instagram post a few hours ago in which she confirmed that her foot is not where she wants it to be for a return, but added a lot more information.
“For many months my instincts used this injury as a platform to reset my mind and body. The excitement of a new year somehow magically allowed me to surf these past few days, and other factors encouraged me to return to competition as soon as possible, against better judgment. I have faced other situations like this where injuries were met with desire,” Kelly begins writing.

He then repeats that the wound symbolizes a lot in his career, both a beginning and an end and that listening to Fanning three nights ago at the WSL gala got him thinking that he's on a path to doing things that make him uncomfortable.
“It’s not professional or responsible and it won’t allow me to be at my best. I love the energy around these tournaments, especially at the start of the year and with a potential Kirra swell on the way back,” Kelly concludes, wishing his replacement, Mike February, luck and jokingly saying that he wants 10% of the South African’s winnings..
“I will return when I consider it the right time,” he says… The important thing about this sentence is that it makes it clear that he will return, and that he may retire due to a foot injury.
