A little interlude between Mikey Wright and Jessé Mendes
A tangled situation in the water followed by some pushing and hitting, ended up awakening the anger of Brazilians and the rest of the world.
On Saturday morning, while training for the second day of the Margaret River Pro was taking place at North Point, Brazilian Jesse Mendes dropped a wave that was being ridden by Australian Mikey Wright. The Brazilian fell and the local ended up taking another blow. Then, according to what former Pipe Masters and now coach Jake Paterson showed and reported on his Snaketales account, there was an encounter with pushing and hitting by Mendes to Wright.
Apparently Mendes had been waiting for a wave for a while and Wright had just caught a good one, came back, sat on the peak and caught another one.
This gave rise to a huge controversy, involving Slater, Tom Carroll and every active and retired professional imaginable, as well as the usual fans.
The Brazilians argued that the Australian had been wrong, the Australians just looked at the scene and said that Mendes had gotten into the wave and had fallen like a kook.
Added to that was a bunch of people making jokes about how the confrontation went, in which basically nothing happened, Mendes hit him several times in a gentle manner and Wright responded threateningly, but talking.
The level and number of comments prompted Paterson to delete the video from his account, later posting waves and writing: “I have removed my last post due to the amount of aggressive comments. Sorry @jesse_mendes and @mikeywright1 that was not my intention.”
According to what was reported by the California-based website, Stab, both had a moment of rapprochement and resolved their differences. Despite this, neither of the two surfers referred to the episode either on their social networks or at the event. They are teammates and both are ranked in round 3 of the tournament. Wright will face John John Florence and Mendes will face Kolohe Andino.
The fans continue to add fuel to the fire, threatening Wright that when he has to go to Brazil, they will not make life easy for him. And those who threaten in this way are the most tender.
In one of the comments, Slater himself joked that it would be nice to see them face each other at the event now. Apparently, that could only happen in the final rounds. What would a final like that be like?
