Sol Aguirre achieved historic WSL youth championship three times

Daniella Rosas was runner-up in the professional category, Arena Rodríguez was placed third


Peruvian Sol Aguirre made history today on the final day of the Saquarema Surf Festival after being crowned South American youth champion for the third time.

With an electrifying finish, Aguirre won the decision on the last wave she surfed, needing a six, she received 7,93 to move into first place and leave Brazilian Laura Raupp as runner-up.

The final score of the series was 14,23 (6,3+7,93) for Aguirre and 12,43 (7,5+4,93) for Raupp.

According to a statement released by WSL South America today, the victory is the third in the Peruvian's career and ties the record held by Brazilian surfer Diana Cristina. Aguirre won in 2017, 2018 and 2021, while the northerner was champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

This title also means Sol will qualify for the 2022 World Youth Championship.

Meanwhile, in the female professional category, Peruvian Daniella Rosas placed second in the event and leaves Saquarema in second place in the ranking.

The young woman from Lima lost to the woman considered the sensation of the event, Sophía Medina, sister of the three-time world champion, Gabriel.

Prior to the final series, Rosas beat another great revelation of the Brazilian leg, his compatriot Arena Rodríguez.

The event was won in the men's professional category by Yago Dora and in the men's junior category by Cauã Costa.
