Brisa's method for dealing with difficult times

“There is an unexpected beauty in all of this, in being forced to connect with myself deeply. In accepting disappointment instead of running away from it,” the Costa Rican reflected.

Costa Rican Brisa Hennessy has had the worst start to a season since she began her career on the CT, accumulating four last-place finishes and failing to advance from a single series.

Reflecting on this, she shared the method she's used to get through tough times in an Instagram video yesterday: “I read something a while ago that said if you're feeling down, lie in the sun for a while, and it's somehow changed my life. So here I am, after my defeat, with my eyes swollen from crying.”

She says the best thing to do is face those feelings and the internal chatter you try to escape, and she takes off her shoes and lies in the sun for "a solid hour" until she is "completely sunburned".

“There’s something about looking up at the sky, the great blue abyss… It’s the perfect combination of making you feel small but at the same time powerful. The world is bigger than my problems, than my ego, than the story I keep repeating to myself,” he added.

“One of my favorite quotes is: ‘You are winning if a painful experience inspires you to stay open and grow instead of building walls.’ So if you are in this situation, go outside, get some sunshine, and feel all the feelings, let it pass, don’t build those walls and let that great blue abyss remain open to infinite possibilities, even when life feels uncertain… That’s when the magic happens,” she says.

“The last four events haven’t gone as I wanted, and I’d be lying if I said they haven’t affected me. But there’s also an unexpected beauty in all of this, in being forced to connect with myself deeply. In accepting disappointment instead of running away from it. In staying open when my instinct tells me to shut down. What a privilege it is to be human and feel all of this with such intensity,” she wrote in the post’s caption.

“I love this sport and the timeless lessons it continues to teach me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to my support team. Your love means more than you can imagine,” he concluded.
