The waves dropped in Iquique and settled perfectly on the bank of La Punta, generating several incredible tubes, both for the right and for the section on the left, known as the Cacho Mauro.
The top 64 players in the tournament went into the water just in time to swim and score the best scores of the championship so far.
The day was divided between those who found those incredible waves and those who waited a little longer and surfed many waves, getting mediocre scores. Sometimes passing and sometimes not.
There was only one surfer who managed to get two decent scores, the rest were combinations of a good or excellent wave and a bad one. Joao Chianca found a right that he took one kick after another and received 8,33. Then he found a 5,8 at the famous Cacho Mauro and closed his series with 14,16. He left Álvaro Malpartida in second place and last year's runner-up, Alonso Correa, and Franklin Serpa out of the tournament.
Cacho Mauro was a great protagonist of the day, he gave the Brazilian Yuri Gonçalves the best wave of the day and of the event, a 9,1, thanks into a tube that he combined with several maneuvers.
He also gave a 9 to Wesley Leite, after hitting an absolute barrel that entered from behind the peak and came out victorious.
Others who enjoyed the benefits of Mauro were Nacho Gundesen, Miguel Blanco and Camilo Hernández.
The action continues on Thursday with a day dedicated only to women.
