Griffin Colapinto's eschatological confession

She had to “go to the bathroom” in the sea, minutes before her series started. Some are already calling it “the best post-series interview in history”

Griffin Colapinto wrote his name into the history of the funniest interviews in the history of sports after emerging from the water in the first heat of the day at the Quiksilver Pro where he beat Kanoa Igarashi and Soli Bailey.

Colapinto had been talking about the right questions South African Rosy Hodges was asking her, about how she had more confidence now that she had gotten a good result in the wave pool stage, and out of nowhere, she said:

“It was funny because I paddled out 10 minutes before the heat and I was like, ‘Oh man, I just had a cup of coffee,’ and I felt like I really wanted to do number two,” so I took off my 3/2 wetsuit, paddled back, took off my rashguard and let the kids out. When I finished I saw that there were two minutes left until my heat started so I put all my stuff back on and when the heat started I had my entire wetsuit full of water, scared that I was going to stop and a bunch of water was going to come out of my legs (laughs).”

After the interview, Rosy Hodges was red in the face, thanking Griffin, saying he was always open-minded and always honest.

Then Joe Turpel and Martin Potter took over and were at a loss for words. One said, “I can’t breathe,” and the other said, “I can’t breathe,” while holding back his laughter. Turpel then added, “He gave us more information than we needed.”

Potter, trying to be serious, said: “You have to do what you have to do.” And Turpel said: “And that is why we love Griffin Colapinto.”
