The magic of the ALAS tour
Several of the best on the continent explain it
Special coverage presented by Surf City - El Salvador Travel
The ALAS tour began more than 20 years ago, an idea from some friends to develop surfing in Latin American countries.
The idea became a reality and a huge industry was created around the tour, famous surfers became more famous and, in an environment where championships and champions were lacking, they were created.
But the most important thing about the ALAS tour had nothing to do with the results, which were important and worthy of being highlighted, the most notable thing was the family that was formed.
A group of people who, to this day, travel the world and know that the person next to them is a brother who went through the same thing... A bed, a roof, some laughs.
And in the water, the water thing, as it should be.
It's incredible because 20 years ago when Jose Madalengoitia released Cuentos del Mar, one of the first documentaries on Latin surfing, surfers said the same thing about ALAS that the young people talked about today with DUKE.
The spirit lives on.
