“It was a great Christmas present,” Lucca Mesinas told DUKE about this barrel. “It was one of the best swells I’ve ever ridden in Cabo Blanco. I don’t think it’s been that long, and the barrels were perfect. There was a lot of offshore wind in the mornings that made the wave come in with the barrel and it was perfect. They didn’t stop, it was a fairly constant swell and everyone got some barrels.”

Regarding his technique for getting through the final section, letting go of the rails and going over that foamball, he said: “I think that on the backside, when you do a pump with no hands you do it longer, you kind of get more speed. It’s like an extra pump to be able to get through the section! I usually do that when the wave is pretty fast.”
