Tubular Christmas in Morrillo

Panamanians behaved well this year and received their reward

All photos by Roger Castillero

The best Christmas present possible arrived at the Panamanian beach break of Morrillo last Tuesday, December 27. What better gift can a surfer ask for than a day of perfect tubes?

There were a few tubes on the day but Gabriel Hernandez took an incredible gem, the photographer of the session, Roger Castillero said that at one point he almost decided to stop clicking, he thought he was dead, when he was spit out by the tube.

A talented, yet unknown goofy footer took another barrel worthy of Puerto Escondido, a large hole into which he entered and emerged upright.

14-year-old Andrés Castillero had some good ones and continued to gain strength in heavy seas.

Below is the gallery.

Confident, Gabriel Hernandez began his journey by clipping the edge and picking up speed.
He saw that the road could get winding and established a safe line.
At that point in the match, neither he nor anyone else had much faith that he would make it. But the Panamanian remained firmly in the barrel.

The tube covered it completely and it was going to continue rolling.
And the sections kept falling...
If this photo is shown alone, it looks like a perfect breaking wave, but inside it is Gabriel Hernandez.
A first sign of spitting and...
There the man came out.
The line, the positioning and the local knowledge gave him the start.
And the surfer entering and the entire beach couldn't believe it.

I waited down and set the line at the right time, so as not to be too deep but not too far out of the tube.
That vision must have felt good.
A good tube in height and also in width.
It sounds easy, but it is not.
"I traveled there," he says, with a clear gesture of celebration.

Another good one for Andrés.
There was room to fly in Andrés Castillero's session.
