Until Thursday, Padang Padang

In view of the approaching swell of the year, the organizers of the Rip Curl Cup moved the restart four days later

Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang organizers put the brakes on the event's completion on Monday when they saw that a mega swell, possibly the one of the year, was on its way to Indonesia.

The eight semi-finalists were told that the next call would be at the peak of this surge, on Thursday.

Thus, what was initially a one-day event became a five-day event.

Rounds 1 and 2 were contested on Sunday afternoon. Western Australians Jack Robinson and Jacob Willcox were the standouts, scoring the highest scores of the day in both heats thanks to their class and nose for the tubes.

They also had to deal with moments of very low tide at the end of the day, which created a bit of tension in the line up.

This is a quiet day compared to what is expected to be seen on Thursday. Because of this, the organizers postponed the event four days. All photos: Lawrence/WSL
Christian Fletcher received an unexpected last-minute invitation and although he did not make it to the semis, he was in charge of doing the "zombie tube" in one of his best waves.

The semi-finals were thus determined:
1: Jacob Willcox vs Bruno Santos vs Agus Setiawan vs Bol Adi Putra
2: Jack Robinson vs Mega Semadhi vs Josh Kerr vs I Made Widiarta

These were the results of the first two rounds:

This time Lee Wilson was unable to make it past the qualifying rounds. However, he did take home a souvenir like the one in the photo. That's one of the good things about this tournament.
Jacob Willcox is a master on the tubes. A few weeks ago he was seen at El Gringo being runner-up and yesterday winning the two heats he entered.
Another highlight of the day was Jack Robinson, who posted the highest score of the day, 18,10 thanks to a 9,7 and an 8,4. Put this youngster on the CT.
Made Widiarta was one of the four locals who managed to get into the semis thanks to his home-court instincts that led him to find these great shots.
Josh Kerr couldn't be more of a multi-tasker: Former CT, former Big Wave Tour Stage Champion, former Aerials Tour Stage Champion, WSL Aerials event organizer and competitor at Padang Padang... The Australian made it into the semis thanks to the class he shows in the photo.
Irishman Gearoid McDaid is slowly making his name among the world's best tube riders. He didn't make it to the semis but he did get a couple of good wins.
