Weekly Editorial: Blessed Peru

I thought this year's trips were over, but...

Honestly, I had thought that I would say goodbye to the 2024 travels on ALAS in Guatemala, but work called me to one of the countries that I consider my second homes, where I spent a good part of my life, one of my favorite countries in the world: Blessed Peru.

The blessed Peru that beyond enchanting me for everything it enchants the millions of tourists it receives year after year, I love it for its long, historic, prestigious, pure and authentic surfing tradition.

Blessed Peru, with perfect waves everywhere all year round.

Blessed Peru gives me surfing sessions where I can escape for half an hour and surf more and better waves than in two or three waves in one session on a good day in Uruguay.

The blessed Peru of people who know good surfing.

The blessed Peru of good surfers, those who know how to surf two-foot waves well, who go tube-riding in eight-foot waves and go down Waimea or Jaws at 50.

Blessed Peru, which has 11-year-old kids who drop straight fades, mark a clean bottom turn and exploit a maneuver on a heavy lip that most adult surfers choose to escape from.

The blessed Peru of Felipe Pomar, Miguel Plaza, Magoo de la Rosa, Makki Block, Titi, Cristobal and Noah de Col; Gabriel Villaran, Gabriel Aramburu, Toto de Romaña, Javi Swayne, Lucca Mesinas, Alonso and Sebastian Correa, Miguel and Tomas Tudela, Joaquin, Anali, Jarita, Faraon, Piccolo, Mafer, Daniella, Sol, Brianna, Camila, Catalina, Lucas, Facundo, Emma and a giant, heavy, and long list that goes on and on (don't get mad, I'm writing names in a hurry to get this editorial out).

The blessed Peru that reminds me of when I started my journey in surfing journalism and that today at 43 years old accompanies my thoughts on that same walk I made from the house in La Planicie to the waves of Señoritas or Caballeros, there and back, always happy to surf those waves.

The blessed Peru of the punk rock band Terreviento that I am listening to right now, with their song “Los pocos feliz” that I am listening to right now and that has been an anthem in my life.

Blessed Peru: Thank you very much. I hope to continue receiving your blessings for many more years.
