Weekly Editorial: The Surfer's Luck

The sea improves you and improves the world; to a large extent.

Anyone who follows the news knows that... I'd rather not say it, but in the last few days, 350 things have happened that are horrifying and that speak to the fact that we unfortunately live in a messed-up world full of messed-up people who hurt each other in different ways.

The reality is that they happen every day, all the time, and I suppose one's sensitivity varies and some things become more noticeable than others.

I don't think we should turn our backs on the news, quite the opposite. I like to face the world I live in head-on, and to the extent I can, I try to make it better... But it's respectable for anyone who doesn't want to follow it.

All I want to say is that the sea is the best refuge. The world doesn't disappear by going to sea, but it's good for you.

Going to the water cleanses the soul and gives a more optimistic touch about life itself.

And no, I don't want to be too mystical or anything like that. Being more practical, I think no one disputes, neither the most mystical nor the least, that when we get out of the water, the world is a better place for all of us who go into the water.

So yes, we are incredibly lucky to be able to go into the water and come out better every time we go.

And, having said that, I must confess that I haven't been in the water for several days now, and I'm really looking forward to getting out there and having a more optimistic outlook on us.

There are people who say that the sea cures everything, I don't know if it cures everything, but it does good, that's for sure.
