With a historic tube, Cristóbal De Col won in El Buey
There was a Peruvian one-two, Tudela was runner-up; Nic Lamb third and Vinicius dos Santos fourth

Peruvian Cristóbal de Col sank an impressive barrel on the right of El Buey to receive 10 points and win the trophy for the 2022 edition of the Santos del Mar big wave tournament.
Going from the backside, de Col entered the wave almost without paddling, dropped a bit off the edge, leaving him with the perfect line for a giant tube to completely envelop him, leaving the doubt of whether he would come out. In a second he reappeared with his arms raised, celebrated non-stop.
As he said after landing, he had always imagined surfing the wave he caught today. He also said that at the beginning it reminded him of the wave in Puerto Escondido that he surfed in 2018.
His compatriot, Miguel Tudela, pushed him hard and came close after landing a monstrous right hand and going for the tube but without finding the cover. The judges gave him 9,17 which, backed by an 8,33, was 0,33 away.
Taking into account the sum, it was 27 points for De Col and 26,67 for Tudela.
Third place went to Nick Lamb, who competed well and was consistent in both of his heats but finished one step below with 24,19.
Vinicius dos Santos, Lucas Silveira and Cristofher Tapia rounded out the top five, in that order.
After learning the result, Cristobal celebrated with his friends and was applauded and congratulated by the rest of the competitors.
The Peruvian confirmed that for many years he had been looking for that dream wave that finally came true. He also said that he dedicated the victory to his hotel, the Piramide Titi and then, at the awards ceremony, he dedicated it to his father, Titi de Col.
