#Zapatips 22: The keys to success of Lucca Mesinas

Some conclusions after a quality chat with the Pan American surfing champion

By Carlos Mario Zapata

In a survey, the vast majority wanted a backside surfing shoe tip, so much effort did it take for Lucca Mesias to become Pan American champion, they go too far.

In the conversation with Lucca we rescued different very important elements that for many may go unnoticed.

First, Lucca explained to us how, despite having had a great training session prior to the victory in Lima 2019, he added extra hours on his own, which is something that many may tell us we shouldn't do, but the value here is confidence. There is no better virtue than trusting in ourselves and let's not trust anyone more than ourselves; only then will we overcome the limits.

Second, learn to go with the flow of your thoughts during difficult times. The mind creates fictitious realities and we often get into them, affecting reality. You have to live in the present, even if it sounds corny, but in an intelligent way.

Third, it doesn't appear in the video but Lucca was very focused and motivated during the competition by watching "Naruto" and this leads us to a section of rituals and structure that each one develops when competing or performing certain activities, greatly increasing the potential of each one.

Fourth, it is something that I want to add as an extra and someone should tell you this: You have no idea how difficult the career of a professional surfer/athlete is; it is as difficult or more difficult than any university and you really have to value the effort that every athlete makes to be the best version of themselves and leave Peru on a high note.

Thanks Lucca for your time and since 84% voted for a backside surfing shoe tip, we are going to work on one and will let you know when we have the details.
