Este sábado y domingo la piscina de Kelly Slater será mostrada al mundo por primera vez en una transmisión en vivo, los televidentes tendrán que esperar 120 segundos entre ola y ola y ver la piscina como el 11 veces campeón la trajo al mundo.

En las últimas horas de ayer, miércoles, Slater se puso a reflexionar sobre su invento en su Instagram: “Tenemos una gran semana por delante. El Surf Ranch finalmente vivirá para ser visto en vivo. La primera vez que vi esta ola en la propiedad, me sorprendí: ‘¿Qué hemos hecho aquí y qué significa para el surf? ¿Es lo mejor que puede pasar o es una extraña puerta que no podremos cerrar? ¿La gente nos amará o nos odiará?’”.

Para la primera pregunta hay tantas respuestas como personas que opinaron sobre el tema, para la segunda habrá consenso que se trata de una “extraña puerta que no se podrá cerrar” con proyectos confirmados para construir más de estas piscinas en distintas partes del mundo. Finalmente, para la tercera, la respuesta es clara, hay gente que ama la piscina y gente que la odia.

“El debate continuará, pero no hay dudas que brinda felicidad a aquellos que la surfean”, sigue Slater. “Cuando tuve esta idea en 2006, sentí que todos deberían dar una mano en algún nivel algunos estuvieron a la altura de las circunstancias y otros se asustaron y se fueron”, agrega para luego agradecer y decir que la mayor parte del mundo no entenderá el trabajo que dio armar este puzzle y que se trató del proyecto “más asustador” de su vida.

 

Big week ahead. #SurfRanch finally comes to life for all to see live. The first day i saw a wave on this property I was taken aback. ‘What have we done here and what does it mean for surfing? Is this the best thing ever or is it opening some weird door we can’t shut? Will people love it or hate us for it?’ They all ran through my head in that first minute, slow motion and fast forward working in unison. The debate shall continue on but there is no denying the stoke it gives those who ride it. When I envisioned this idea, I felt it was bigger than one person or company and it should be something everyone has a hand in on some level. Certain individuals stepped up to the plate back in 2006 and others were scared away. To my partners and our team...I thank you for having the original belief to make this a reality in our lifetimes when a lot of people wouldn’t take the risk. Most will never comprehend what it took to put this puzzle together. This was the scariest project I’ve ever been a part of but the rewards are far greater than I had realized they would be. I’m honored that many of the biggest legends of our sport will join the best surfers in the world in venturing to the middle of nowhere to celebrate it all this coming weekend. Thanks to everyone for their ideas, support, and opinions good and bad.
